CHR 900 Azzalin .....Update for November 2008
In line with all the other chapters I have decided to file an update showing the changes to the Azzalin since the last posting.
The ITG Airfilter was redesigned to allow proper breathing to the 39mm FCR carbs and as the cut and shut previous ITG filter started collapsing due to the engine having a “super suck facility” not my words! Anyway the photo below shows the ITG filter in all its glory.
I had used ITG before, on the 888 and had never experienced any problems. They provide a better airflow rate than the K&N range and don’t “strangle” like the filter-socks or pods, commonly available.
They fit "over" the FCR bell-mouths and filter from the sides, top and underneath and give that nice induction sound!
Next, the tyres… which also resulted in the rims.
I had gone from a Pirrelli Scorpion 150x70x18 rear to 140x80x18 which was better, but still not right.
From there it was then on to Continental TKC 80!!
Knobblies …oh lordy!!…and to get the confidence up I put the wheels and tyres from the ST2 944fant
(19 and 17 inchers) on the Azzalin, in order to gauge the difference.
After that, it was a chance conversation with MWMX that led to a deal being done and the ST2 944fant getting a new set of “Black” ali rimmed 19 and 17 inchers fitted. Only something went wrong and a set of 19 and 18 inchers turned up!
No problem, I thought, order a 21 inch and put it with the 18 on the Azzalin, that way the Azzalin gets the new rims in Black!
Being Scottish, some things seem rather simple..like the Welsh!!
For no sooner had I placed the new order, when a parcel arrived with a 21inch and ……….a 18 inch front rim laced to a rear hub.
Full of humble apologies and threatened with the pulling of the order Matt from WelshWales sourced another 18inch x 4.25 black ali rim and requested a hub to lace it to.
Cut a long story short.
I have ended up with 3 sets of 18 x 4.25 Black ali rims, laced to original fitment hubs, fitted with Knobblies and two 19inch Black ali fronts and 1 x 21 inch Black ali rim, spoked in stainless and all bead blasted and painted hubs a unit cost of under £150 each!
Oh and Stealth Products, my favourite custom disc manufacture, came through, again, with a set of Black discs with more holes than an American road sign in Helman Province.
Other changes are to the colour scheme. Namely, a painting of the area to the bottom of the tank, which changes the bikes lines.
And the sourching of some authentic Tecnosel decals, reproduced in modern materials.
The Shepshed Brothers, came good and inserted a gelpad and remodelled the seat, whilst managing to save the original suede seat covering material and re-applying with the utmost skill …a job well done.
